Rider of the Week

ROTW brought to you by Chris Withers, GA-MXRacing.com and.........

Nico Izzi,,, now that is a name that we have been hearing for years now and he has yet to ride a professional event. Once he does go Pro, I think we’ll hear it even more. For now, in preparation of his final season as an amateur rider, the Suzuki speedster has traded in his Michigan Mafia card for a chance to ride and train year round at his new track right here in Georgia. Nico was at the Hillbilly Hills round of the GCS this weekend and was lightning fast showing his new neighbors just what he is capable of.

I always get to meet some of the coolest people and as luck would have it, Dan Martin approached me and mentioned he would like to do a rider spotlight this week. We chose Izzi since he just kinda got here and we would like to get to know him and what he has going on. I sat down with the guy on Sunday afternoon just before one of his motos and thru a couple of short questions at him. Here is what he had to say.

CW: Most of us know, but what is your full name?

NI: Dominic Nico Izzi

CW: And how old are you? When’s your birthday?

NI: I was born on 7/17/1990 and I’m 16 years old.

CW: So when and why did you come to Georgia?

NI: I got here about a month ago. Ronnie Tichneor and I bought this guys track and land. It’s real nice. His name is Justin Applewhite and he had got out of racing. It’s a good place to train and ride year round.

CW: Where all have you been riding and practicing?

NI: Well, I’ve been spending a lot of time on my new track, but I go to Timmy Ferry’s and practice there a lot too.

CW: What’s your favorite track in Georgia so far?

NI: I haven’t rode a bunch since I’ve been here. This one is real good (Hillbilly) but I was down here before I moved here and rode Bremen and I really like that track too.

CW: Got any riding buddies down here yet?

NI: I’ve been riding with Lance Stalls a lot. Also with Ferry and this guy that lives near me named Parker Anthony.

CW: Yeah, we know Parker pretty well around here, he’s a good kid.

CW: Tell us about your goals for 2007.

NI: I want to make the move to the A class and do Texas, the World Mini’s and Loretta’s, then the plan is to turn pro and ride the last 3 or 4 nationals.

CW: I know you got a pile of them, but shoot a list of the sponsors that are taking care of you.

NI: Oh man,,,Suzuki, Tichneor, Cernics, Volcom, Etnies, Thor, Ogio, Twin Air, Carbon Fiber Works, Maxima, Alpinestars, Oakley, Pro-Circuit, Amped Mobile, Renthal, 661 and Dunlop.

CW: Excellent, well thanks a lot Nico. Nice to meet you and welcome to Georgia.

NI: Thanks Chris. It’s good to be here and everybody has been super nice.

Nico turned out to be a real cool kid. I had never met him before and sometimes you don’t quite know what to expect, but I am super pumped that he is down here and looking forward to seeing this good natured, pleasant young racer at some more local events. If you see Nico and his family at your track, be sure to go up and welcome him to Georgia, he will defiantly appreciate it.

Talk to you all soon

Chris
